LOW-EMISSION CROPS TO INCREASE EXPORT PRICES OF PRODUCTS

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has launched a project on low-emission crop production for 2025–2035, with a vision toward 2050, aiming to boost productivity and export value while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Deputy Minister Hoàng Trung said low-emission, traceable agricultural products could fetch 10–25 per cent higher prices in key markets such as the EU, Japan, and North America. The plan targets a 15 per cent emissions cut by 2035 and a reduction of 8–11 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually, contributing to Việt Nam’s climate commitments. By 2050, all major crop areas are expected to adopt low-emission practices, supported by a national emissions database and a low-emission label for key commodities. Fifty-nine models will be implemented across 34 provinces, including low-emission rice, agroforestry, and circular agriculture. The initiative also emphasises farmer training, carbon credit development, and livelihood protection alongside environmental benefits. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
