POLAND RECORDS THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF PUBLIC INVESTMENT IN YEARS

Poland is reporting the highest level of public investment in years. According to the European Commission forecasts, it is expected to amount to 5.2 percent of GDP next year and 5.1 percent of GDP this year. The acceleration is also visible in nominal terms – in 2026, it is expected to reach PLN216bn, which is twice as much as in 2022. However, economists warn that the state-driven boom will not be enough if the private sector continues to put its projects on hold. “I believe that the current level of public investment is sufficient. The biggest problem is the very low level of private investment in Poland compared to the EU. The government should rather work on the effectiveness of its projects. The results depend not only on quantity, but also on quality”, points out Kamil Sobolewski, chief economist at Employers of Poland. (ICE VARSAVIA)
