INDONESIA COULD BECOME A GLOBAL TEXTILE HUB, INDUSTRY MINISTER REVEALS EVIDENCE

Indonesia’s textile and textile products (TPT) industry is asserting its position as a globally competitive and resilient sector, with Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita declaring it far from being a “sunset industry.” Speaking at the 2025 International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) and International Apparel Federation (IAF) World Fashion Convention Annual Conference, he highlighted that under President Prabowo Subianto’s first year in office, the TPT sector grew by 5.39% and contributed 0.98% to national GDP. Indonesia now ranks among the world’s top five most efficient textile producers, with production costs in yarn spinning, weaving, and fabric finishing outperforming major global competitors. The sector’s export strength is also evident, with HS 61 (knitted clothing and accessories) rank as Indonesia's second-largest trade surplus commodity, with a value of US$1.86 billion, even surpassing footwear (HS 64), which only reached US$1.85 billion. To sustain this momentum, the Ministry of Industry has rolled out a suite of strategic policies: simplifying investment through Online Single Submission (OSS) reforms, modernizing machinery to boost efficiency and employment, expanding access to industrial credit, and offering fiscal incentives for R&D and vocational training. These initiatives aim to transform Indonesia into a hub for sustainable textile innovation and manufacturing. Amid global disruptions and shifting supply chains, Agus emphasized that Indonesia’s abundant resources, skilled workforce, and adaptive policies position it as a trusted partner for long-term growth in the global textile industry.Source: https://finance.detik.com/industri/d-8179187/ri-bisa-jadi-pusat-tekstil-global-menperin-ungkap-buktinya  (ICE GIACARTA)
