KAZAKHSTAN-ELECTRICITY-SURPLUS-PLAN
Kazakhstan targets electricity surplus by 2029Kazakhstan expects to achieve a surplus in electricity generation by 2029, Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said Tuesday.According to Akkenzhenov, 68 power projects are slated for implementation across the country by 2029, adding a total of 6.7 GW in new capacity.“By 2029, we plan to fully meet domestic electricity demand and ensure a surplus in the national power grid, which will also boost Kazakhstan’s export potential,” the minister said at a government meeting.Earlier reports indicated an expected electricity shortage of 0.9 GW during the 2025–2026 autumn-winter period. The deficit is to be covered through electricity imports from Russia and Uzbekistan. (ICE ALMATY)
