KOREAN ECONOMY SURGES 1.2% IN THIRD QUARTER

South Korea’s economy recorded a notable rebound in the third quarter of 2025, growing by 1.2% compared to the previous quarter — the strongest pace in a year and a half. The expansion was mainly supported by domestic demand, as private consumption increased by about 1.3% thanks to higher household spending on services, leisure, and durable goods. Business investment also improved, reflecting stronger confidence in key industries such as semiconductors and technology, while construction investment continued to decline, limiting overall momentum. Exports rose by around 1.5% quarter-on-quarter, led by semiconductors and automobiles, which remain the country’s most dynamic export sectors. The combination of resilient consumption, rising business investment, and export growth helped stabilize the economy after a period of weaker performance. Authorities indicated that, given this stronger-than-expected growth, the annual forecast — currently set around 0.9% — may be revised upward. However, analysts warned that the outlook remains uncertain, as external risks such as global demand volatility and geopolitical tensions could still affect export performance and slow the recovery in the coming months.
