KOREAN TECH GIANTS UNVEIL INNOVATIONS AT APEC
At the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea’s major technology companies showcased a suite of next-generation innovations and made clear their ambitions for global leadership in areas such as foldable devices, hydrogen mobility, transparent displays, and AI components. Samsung Electronics revealed a prototype of a tri-fold smartphone that, when folded, has a screen size of about 6.5 inches and when unfolded expands to around 10 inches — marking a sizeable leap from earlier models. LG Electronics highlighted its transparent wireless television technology and other immersive display concepts, positioning itself at the forefront of novel visual formats. SK Hynix (and broader SK Group) emphasized its role in high-end memory solutions supporting AI infrastructure, signalling that South Korea intends to deepen its footprint in global AI and data-driven hardware ecosystems. Automotive and mobility players also took centre stage: hydrogen-powered vehicles, modular electric production vehicles (PBVs), and robotics platforms were displayed by groups such as Hyundai Motor Group and its affiliates, underlining South Korea’s push toward clean mobility and smart systems. Through this showcase, these firms conveyed both confidence in their technological capabilities and a strategic drive to shape markets beyond Korea. The event therefore reflects not just product innovation, but also Korea’s aspirations in technology diplomacy and global industrial positioning. (ICE SEOUL)
