PHARMACEUTICAL EXPORTS RISE 6% IN 2025 – DOS
The Kingdom's pharmaceutical exports reached JD398 million between January and August 2025, marking a 6 per cent increase compared with JD376 million during the same period last year, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).Fadi Atrash, representative of the therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry, attributed this performance to ongoing Royal support, rising international demand and the sector’s commitment to quality and innovation.“The pharmaceutical industry, which accounts for 85 per cent of Jordan’s therapeutic and medical supplies sector, has become a central pillar of the national economy, providing around 10,000 jobs, with women comprising 35 per cent of the workforce,” Atrash added.Recent Royal visits to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have also bolstered trade relations and encouraged pharmaceutical firms to explore new export destinations in Central Asia, Atrash said.Pharmacist Sana Ali told The Jordan Times, “Continuous Royal attention has opened new export opportunities and strengthened the credibility of Jordanian medicines in international markets. This support, combined with our dedication to innovation, has enabled Jordan to maintain a strong reputation across regional and Asian markets.”Pharmacist Mai Badr highlighted the sector’s expansion as a reflection of the flexibility and competitiveness of Jordanian manufacturers. “Local producers are increasingly investing in research and development to meet global standards,” she said.“This approach has not only boosted exports but also strengthened the national economy by attracting international partnerships and improving the trade balance.”The pharmaceutical industry currently comprises 27 registered factories across Jordan, with a total capital of approximately JD350 million. Its sustained export growth has cemented its role as a key driver of the country’s industrial performance, according to stakeholders.Pharmacist Rania Haddad noted that the sector’s positive momentum is generating broader economic benefits. “The local pharmaceutical industry creates employment, stimulates logistics and packaging services, and reinforces investor confidence in Jordan’s industrial capacity,” she said.
