EVN AND MOIT DRIVE VIETNAM’S GREEN ENERGY TRANSITION UNDER RESOLUTION 70

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) are intensifying efforts to accelerate the nation’s green energy transition under Resolution 70, which aims to ensure energy security and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. At a conference in Hanoi on October 30, Tran Hoai Trang, deputy director general of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, announced that the MoIT is finalising a draft National Assembly resolution for 2026–2030 to address legal and procedural bottlenecks in power development. The resolution seeks to streamline administrative processes, promote private investment through direct power purchase agreements, and introduce incentives for LNG-to-power and offshore wind projects. EVN, meanwhile, is investing $3–4 billion annually in clean power, smart grids, and digital transformation. According to Nguyen Tai Anh, EVN’s deputy general director, the utility is upgrading coal plants, exploring biomass and ammonia co-firing, and developing renewable and low-emission energy sources such as nuclear, hydrogen, and green ammonia. EVN is also enhancing grid efficiency, adopting AI and big data technologies, and engaging in carbon credit markets. Together, EVN and MoIT’s initiatives represent a decisive step toward a carbon-neutral, resilient, and sustainable energy future for Vietnam. — VNS (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
