Almaty Airport to serve almost 5 times more passengers by 2050As a result of implementing the Horizon development program, Almaty Airport will be able to serve 4.6 times more passengers by 2050, the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reports."The modernization will increase the airport's annual capacity to 55 million passengers and 500,000 tonnes of cargo by 2050. Currently, the airport serves over 12 million passengers per year and handles about 70% of air traffic in Kazakhstan," stated the message following the Prime Minister's meeting on the development of Almaty Airport.According to the CEO of TAV Airports Holding, which owns the airport, Serkan Kaptan, and the President of Almaty International Airport, Goker Kose, the domestic terminal is currently being reconstructed, a modern anti-icing platform is being created, noise insulation for nearby residential buildings and other works are being carried out.Overall, it is noted that the concept involves creating a system of three runways with a complete reconstruction of the main runway, constructing a cargo apron, logistics and warehouse complexes, and modern passenger infrastructure."The management of TAV Airports Holding reported that $260 million has been invested to date and confirmed its readiness to further reinvest the airport's profit for the timely implementation of all project stages," the press release states.Issues related to the creation of a ring road around the airport territory, connecting the city highway, BAKAD, the cargo complex and the main entrance to the airport with the possibility of quick exit, were also considered.
