INDONESIA'S FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY GROWS 8.3% IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2025
Indonesia’s footwear and leather goods industry saw robust growth of 8.3% year-on-year in Q1 2025, surpassing the national economic growth rate of 5.12%, according to Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. This expansion was largely fueled by strong export performance, with shipments reaching US$5.16 billion between January and August, up from US$4.61 billion in the same period of 2024. The sector’s dynamism is also reflected in the registration of over 23,000 local footwear brands, signaling rising creativity and competitiveness. Kartasasmita emphasized the importance of bolstering domestic support for these brands to sustain momentum and enhance industry resilience. The industry currently supports significant employment, with over 53,000 small-scale businesses employing 159,000 workers and 737 medium-to-large firms providing jobs for approximately 571,000 people. Indonesia has retained its status as the world’s sixth-largest footwear exporter, with the U.S. as its top market. Kartasasmita urged increased domestic consumption of local products and called on government bodies to prioritize the use of Indonesian-made goods. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing a supportive business environment through strategic industrial policies and initiatives like the newly inaugurated National Footwear Industry Empowerment Center in East Java.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/389905/footwear-industry-grows-83-percent-in-first-quarter-of-2025-govt?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
