TWENTY-FOUR FOREIGN FIRMS SHORTLISTED FOR INDONESIA’S FIRST WAVE OF WTE TENDER
Indonesia’s sovereign wealth agency, BPI Danantara, has shortlisted 24 foreign companies—primarily from China, Japan, and Europe—to bid on seven upcoming waste-to-energy (WTE) projects set to launch on November 6, 2025. Selected from over 200 global applicants for their technological expertise, these firms must form consortia with local partners to ensure technology transfer and build domestic capacity for future tenders. The projects, located in Denpasar, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bogor Raya, Tangerang Raya, Bekasi Raya, and Medan Raya, are expected to begin construction in early 2026 and commence operations by April. The new WTE facilities will employ pure incineration technology, capable of processing nearly all types of municipal waste into energy, fly ash, and bottom ash—an approach already used in over 75% of WTE plants in Europe, China, and Singapore. All participating companies are required to meet European emission standards. Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung, highlighted the technology’s effectiveness, noting that cities processing 1,500 tons of waste daily could generate up to 30 MW of power. He also encouraged smaller regions to pool waste resources to meet operational thresholds, reinforcing the government’s commitment to expanding sustainable energy infrastructure across Indonesia.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5577/energy-and-resources/twenty-four-foreign-firms-shortlisted-for-indonesia-s-first-wave-of-wte-tender (ICE GIACARTA)
