INDONESIA’S CONSTRUCTION SECTOR BUILDS STEADY MOMENTUM AS INFRASTRUCTURE GROWS
Indonesia’s construction sector remains a vital economic pillar, contributing over 10% to national GDP and showing resilience amid global challenges. In 2024, it grew by 7%, with a 3.6% year-on-year increase in early 2025, supported by stable macroeconomic conditions and easing inflation. Growth is projected to continue at 5.48% in 2025, driven by building projects despite tighter budgets for civil works. The government’s National Medium-Term Development Plan (Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Nasional or RPJMN) 2024–2029 infrastructure strategy, backed by increased the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) funding and over 200 National Strategic Projects (PSN), ensures sustained momentum. Major initiatives like the Nusantara capital relocation and Trans-Sumatra Toll Road offer long-term opportunities, especially through public–private partnerships. Beyond urban infrastructure, energy and industrial expansion are reshaping regional construction demand. The government's Electricity Supply Business Plan(Rencana Umum Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik or RUPTL) 2025–2034 targets 69.5 GW of mostly renewable energy, while PLN’s roadmap adds 31.6 GW by 2040. Industrial zones like Morowali and Kalimantan are driving vertical construction and logistics growth. With 82% of 2026’s market expected to be non-budget-funded, competency transformation and risk management are critical. Technological modernization, including mandatory BIM and green building standards, is advancing efficiency and sustainability. Employing 13.8 million workers, the sector’s future hinges on human capital development to match rising complexity, positioning construction as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s inclusive transformation through 2030.Source: https://business-indonesia.org/news/indonesia-s-construction-sector-builds-steady-momentum-as-infrastructure-drives-growth (ICE GIACARTA)
