GLOBAL CHIPMAKERS LOOK TO VIỆT NAM AS A NEW GROWTH HUB IN SEMIEXPO 2025

Việt Nam is advancing its semiconductor ambitions with a clear strategic direction and stronger global partnerships, as showcased at SEMIExpo Vietnam 2025 held in Hà Nội on November 7–8. Organised by the National Innovation Centre (NIC) and SEMI, the event focused on opportunities across the semiconductor value chain, from design to testing and packaging. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Chí Dũng affirmed that semiconductor development is a long-term national strategy crucial for innovation, economic competitiveness and security. Việt Nam aims to evolve from an assembler to a creator of chip technology. The country currently has 50 IC design firms, 15 packaging and testing companies, and over 17,000 engineers and technicians. The government’s orientation, described as C = SET + 1—chips (C), specialised applications (S), electronics (E), talent (T) and the goal (+1) of becoming a trusted global destination—reflects a comprehensive development roadmap. Despite challenges in talent and supply chain capacity, local giants like Viettel and FPT are investing in R&D and IC design. The expo attracted 200 global exhibitors including Lam Research, Micron, Amkor, and GlobalFoundries, signalling strong international interest. Deputy PM Dũng stressed that persistence and global cooperation will be key to establishing Việt Nam as a reliable semiconductor hub. — VNS (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
