IRAQ ELECTION: ECONOMIC POLICIES IN ELECTORAL PROGRAMS

To date, there are no reliable sources that provide a comprehensive account of the 2025 election programmes of Iraq's political blocs or their candidates -- whether relating to political, economic, or social agendas. There are no official publications, televised debates, or radio broadcasts outlining the electoral platforms that the political blocs or their nominees might adopt, particularly with respect to the economic issues and challenges facing the country. In this paper, I present an objective, evidence-based analysis addressing two key questions:Do the economic aspects of the parties' or blocs' election programmes correspond to the scale of Iraq's internal, regional, and international economic challenges?Have past experiences demonstrated that these blocs, through their representatives in government and parliament, possess the capability and effectiveness to implement successful economic policies? The discussion will be structured around three main areas:(a) An analysis of the alignment between electoral programmes and the prevailing economic, financial, and regional realities.(b) A critique of the blocs' historical capacity to deliver genuine economic reforms.(c) Practical tools for assessing the realism of any electoral programme and for monitoring its implementation. The study draws upon reports issued by international and regional institutions, as well as local analytical sources.
