LEBANESE MOET OUTLINES REFORM PATH TOWARD SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

The Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade (MoET) has reaffirmed its commitment to a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at achieving sustainable growth and restoring macroeconomic stability. According to the MoET, recent indicators show a 5% improvement in economic activity compared to 2024, but recovery remains dependent on stability and reconstruction.  The reform plan focuses on four pillars: restructuring the banking sector, reducing production costs, improving governance, and strengthening institutional stability. The MoET’s objective is to restore the Lebanese economy to US$ 60–70 billion, up from US$ 30–40 billion.  Ongoing reforms include lifting electricity subsidies, expanding power supply, advancing telecom reforms, and improving port and airport operations. The ministry also highlighted initiatives in trade facilitation, food security, and digitalization, including new grain silos in Beirut, the Bekaa, and the North.  The Minister of Economy and Trade emphasized that the Beirut One Conference shifts the focus fromseeking aid to fostering investment and partnership.
