THE LEBANESE MOA LAUNCHES NATIONAL ROADSIDE AFFORESTATION PROGRAM
The Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has launched a nationwide “Roadside Afforestation” program in cooperation with the Beirut Order of Engineers, targeting the expansion of green corridors along public roads across urban and rural areas. According to the Ministry, more than 150 municipalities have submitted participation requests. The initiative promotes planting native tree species and is set to grant recognition certificates to participating entities. The program reflects ongoing efforts to enhance environmental sustainability and expand public-private-municipal cooperation in urban greening. Additionally, the MoA, in cooperation with the municipalities, is set to grant official certificates of appreciation to everyone who contributes to planting a street or neighborhood, along with a plaque bearing the name of the participating entity and the name of the planted street, to remain a mark of pride for future generations and evidence of commitment to environmental citizenship. It is worth noting that the launching ceremony included a technical dialogue session that addressed the engineering, executive and environmental frameworks for planting trees along roadsides, highlighting the importance of scientific planning and involving landscape engineers in all stages of the project to ensure its sustainability and aesthetic and environmental effectiveness.
