INDONESIA'S ELECTRIC CAR MARKET IS GROWING RAPIDLY

Indonesia’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) market is experiencing rapid growth, with sales reaching 55,225 units from January to September 2025, up from 43,188 units in 2024. This surge has pushed BEVs to capture nearly 10% of total national car sales. Analysts highlight strong fiscal incentives, competitive pricing, and rising environmental awareness as key drivers, with several models now priced below Rp 200 million, making EVs more accessible than conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. The influx of new brands is intensifying competition, challenging the dominance of established ICE players like Toyota and Daihatsu, while offering consumers more diverse and affordable options. However, the increasingly crowded market also raises risks of price wars that could erode margins and threaten long-term sustainability. Experts stress that survival will depend not only on affordability but also on building robust ecosystems, local production, and contributing to domestic industry growth. To support this transition, the government and industry must prioritize expanding charging infrastructure beyond major cities, ensure fiscal incentives favor brands investing in local supply chains, and strengthen inter-ministerial coordination to avoid regulatory overlap. Broader macroeconomic growth is also seen as essential to sustain consumer demand and solidify Indonesia’s EV ecosystem.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/pasar-mobil-listrik-indonesia-tumbuh-pesat-persaingan-semakin-ketat (ICE GIACARTA)
