ENI–PETRONAS JOINT VENTURE TO LAUNCH EIGHT GAS PROJECTS IN INDONESIA, MALAYSIA
Italian energy major, Eni SpA, and Malaysia’s Petronas have established a 50:50 joint venture, NewCo, to launch eight new upstream gas projects—four in Indonesia and four in Malaysia—over the next three years. The venture will oversee 19 upstream assets (14 in Indonesia and five in Malaysia) with an initial US$15 billion investment focused on proven reserves. NewCo is expected to start operations with a production capacity exceeding 300,000 barrels per day and three billion barrels of proven reserves, while also targeting an additional 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent for future development. The partnership builds on recent major discoveries, including over 15 trillion cubic feet of reserves in Indonesia and a combined 50 TCF across both countries. According to Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi, the joint venture will accelerate gas development by pooling resources, sharing infrastructure, and accessing external financing, thereby reducing costs and speeding commercialization. Existing LNG facilities, such as Bontang LNG in East Kalimantan, will be integrated to support operations. Strategically located to serve growing demand in China, Japan, India, Vietnam, and South Korea, the initiative underscores both companies’ commitment to regional energy security and sustainability, positioning natural gas as a cleaner alternative to coal in Asia’s power generation mix.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5634/corporate-affairs/eni-petronas-joint-venture-to-launch-eight-gas-projects-in-indonesia-malaysia (ICE GIACARTA)
