UKRAINE AND EU DEEPEN COOPERATION TOWARD INTEGRATION INTO THE COMMON AGRICULTURAL POLICY
A roundtable discussion centered on integrating Ukraine and the EU’s agricultural sectors was held in Brussels, Belgium with the participation of delegates from the Ukrainian government and business sector, the European Parliament, and the European Commission. The parties agreed to enhance institutional cooperation between Ukraine and the EC and to develop a phased plan for Ukraine’s gradual integration into the EU’s common agricultural policy. It is noted that Ukrainian producers already meet many EU standards for food safety, and the next step is integrating Ukraine’s agricultural sector into the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, which will boost Ukrainian farmers’ competitiveness in the European market and reinforce Europe’s food security. The EU aims to create a sustainable European food system with Ukraine’s inclusion, as Ukraine remains one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of food.Meanwhile, the EU Council and the European Parliament have reached a preliminary consensus on simplifying the Common Agricultural Policy to make European agriculture more competitive. These changes are expected to cut annual administrative costs for farmers by €1.6B and for EU governments by €200M.https://ubn.news/ukraine-is-strengthening-its-dialogue-with-the-eu-on-the-common-agricultural-policy/ (ICE KIEV)
