INDONESIAN GOVT TO AUCTION 75 OIL & GAS BLOCKS BY 2027 TO BOOST EXPLORATION

Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas announced plans to auction 75 oil and gas working areas over the next two years, with tenders for 2025 already underway and further offerings scheduled through 2027. Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto emphasized that exploration investment should primarily come from private entities to ensure efficiency and encourage broader participation. He noted that revenues from the sector should ideally be reinvested into exploration of the 75 new blocks and 65 unexplored basins, which are believed to hold significant untapped reserves. Djoko expressed optimism that large-scale discoveries could help Indonesia regain energy self-sufficiency and restore national oil output to 1.6 million barrels per day. However, he cautioned that achieving such targets requires substantial exploration funding, warning that without new reserves, production could decline to just 600,000 barrels per day. He stressed that maintaining current levels would already be considered a success, underscoring the critical importance of exploration to secure the country’s future energy supply.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5641/energy-and-resources/government-to-auction-75-oil-and-gas-blocks-by-2027-to-boost-exploration  (ICE GIACARTA)
