BRAZIL OPENS BLACK BEAN MARKET IN LEBANON
Lebanon has opened its bean market to Brazil, according to a statement released earlier this week by Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. The two ministries also announced, on the same occasion, that the United Arab Emirates has opened its market to Brazilian quail. Both countries are Arab nations. The statement reports that the Brazilian government has concluded sanitary and phytosanitary negotiations with the governments of the UAE and Lebanon, which will allow these exports to begin. According to the announcement, this brings the total number of markets opened to Brazilian agribusiness since the beginning of 2023 to 488. Earlier this month, Lebanon also opened its market to live cattle and buffalo from Brazil for breeding purposes. Last year, Brazil earned over USD 432 million from agricultural exports to Lebanon, mainly consisting of meat, sugar and ethanol products, and soybean products. Exports of agricultural products to the UAE totaled USD 3.3 billion in 2024. According to the statement, the quail will be used for animal feed. (ICE BEIRUT)
