KAZAKHSTAN-AGRICULTURE-INVESTORS

Tokayev urges greater involvement of foreign investors in agribusiness processing projectsPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for more active engagement of foreign investors in Kazakhstan’s agribusiness sector, particularly in projects focused on deep processing.“Priority should be given to the production of deep processing products. Our agribusiness sector is still largely limited to raw material output, and this must be acknowledged,” Tokayev said at a forum of agricultural workers in Astana on Friday. He noted that the share of processed agricultural products reached only 35% in 2023, but has already grown to 50% this year. By next year, the figure should reach 70%, which requires accelerating efforts to attract foreign investors into the sector.“There are many projects needed for the sector; I reviewed several of them even before the forum began. But we cannot be satisfied with what we already have. Investment projects in key agribusiness segments must be implemented. One of the main priorities is attracting private capital. First of all, favorable conditions must be created for foreign investors bringing advanced technologies,” Tokayev said.According to the president, the government has prepared a list of more than 200 agribusiness investment projects.“These projects, worth about 4 trillion tenge over three years, are being implemented across 12 sectors. They must now receive the necessary support at all levels. Both the central government and the regions must be proactive. It is important to clearly determine when and how these projects will be implemented. Local administrations and ministries must work promptly and in a coordinated manner,” he said. (ICE ALMATY)
