Kazakhstan to ramp up transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan – TokayevKazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced plans to increase transit of Russian natural gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan, the presidential press service said in a statement.“The Russia–Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan gas project is achieving its objectives. We plan to increase gas transit volumes through our collective efforts,” Tokayev told a briefing in Tashkent.He also noted strong prospects for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the oil and nuclear energy sectors, emphasizing the need for close coordination in water and energy management based on principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and consideration of each other’s interests.Tokayev is currently on a state visit to Tashkent.Russian gas deliveries to Uzbekistan via Kazakh territory commenced in October 2023. According to previously released data from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, 1.28 billion cubic meters of gas were transported through Kazakhstan in 2023, rising to 5.6 billion cubic meters in 2024. Volumes are expected to increase further to 7.3 billion cubic meters in 2025, with a planned gradual expansion up to 11 billion cubic meters annually by 2038. (ICE ALMATY)
