INDIAN GOVT ANNOUNCES ₹100 CRORE(APPROX. USD 11.3 MILLION) Call for Proposals for Biomass-Based Hydrogen Pilots
Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi said that the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) is accelerating India’s clean energy shift and creating jobs, attracting investments, and positioning India as a global hub for green hydrogen. He was addressing the inaugural session of the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, reaffirming India’s global leadership in clean-energy transition. On the occasion, the Minister launched the official logo of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) and announced a ₹100 crore(approx. USD 11.3 million) Call for Proposals for pilot projects to develop innovative technologies for producing green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials. The NGHM aims to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production, use, and export. It has an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore(USD 2.23 billion), with a target of producing 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030. It also aims for 125 GW of renewable energy capacity, Rs 8 lakh crore(USD 90.1 billion) in investment, and over 6 lakh green jobs. It also aims for a reduction of Rs 1 lakh crore in fossil fuel imports, as well as a 50 million tonnes cut in CO₂ emissions annually. The cost of solar power in India is among the lowest in the world, and with rapidly expanding wind and hydro projects, the country is building a clean energy base that will drive the next great industrial revolution - the hydrogen revolution. So far, under the mission, incentives have been awarded for 3,000 MW per year of domestic electrolyser manufacturing capacity and 8.62 lakh metric tonnes per year of green hydrogen production. The country is likely to achieve the 5 MMT annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2032. (ICE NEW DELHI)
