OEMS BECOME THE NEW PRIMA DONNA OF THE INDONESIA'S CERAMICS INDUSTRY
Indonesia’s protectionist policies in the ceramics industry—such as anti-dumping measures, safeguards, and mandatory SNI standards—have triggered the growth of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) collaborations between importers and local producers. Nearly 90% of large importers, many of whom previously relied on Chinese supplies, have signed OEM contracts with domestic manufacturers, with five companies currently engaged in such partnerships. The scheme offers advantages including stable pricing, reliable supply unaffected by global logistics, and stronger after-sales service, making the national ceramics ecosystem more competitive and supporting import substitution. However, not all producers are participating, as some prefer to focus on their own brands and distribution networks.OEM collaborations have already boosted industry utilization by 4.5% in 2025, with average utilization reaching 72.5% and production volume rising 16% year-on-year to 392.7 million m² by October. Total output for 2025 is projected at 474.5 million m², supported by new investments that raised national capacity to 650 million m². Asaki expects utilization to climb to 78–80% in 2026 and urges the government to maintain consistent protectionist policies to safeguard against import surges, ensuring continued growth and resilience in the domestic ceramics industry.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/oem-jadi-primadona-baru-industri-keramik-utilisasi-pabrik-meroket (ICE GIACARTA)
