INDONESIA TARGETS ELECTRIFICATION OF 10,000 REMOTE AREAS IN FIVE YEARS

Indonesia plans to accelerate electrification in more than 10,000 underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas within five years to ensure equal access to energy and reduce service gaps. Despite achieving a 98.54% electrification ratio nationwide, challenges remain in 5,700 villages and 4,400 hamlets, particularly in Papua, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources estimates Rp61 trillion (US$3.6 billion) will be needed, including Rp2.5 trillion for free electricity connections to low-income households. So far, 155,000 households have benefited, with a target of 255,000 more in 2025. Efforts also include building communal solar power plants in 80,000 villages to expand renewable energy access, supporting not only lighting but also local economies through irrigation, food processing, and small-scale industries. Officials emphasized that equitable electricity access is vital for education, healthcare, and economic mobility in remote communities. The government reaffirmed its commitment to reliable, clean energy as part of broader national development and social justice goals aimed at improving quality of life across Indonesia.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/392685/indonesia-targets-electrification-of-10000-remote-areas-in-five-years (ICE GIACARTA)
