GREECE: 14 MILLION EURO INVESTMENT PROGRAMME TO UPGRADE ONEX SHIPYARDS IN SYROS

ONEX Shipyards in Syros are entering a new phase of development, through a five-year investment programme of over 14 million euros, financed entirely with the company's own funds. This programme marks the second period of the shipyards' regeneration, following their successful rescue and reopening, and aims to create a modern, sustainable and internationally competitive shipbuilding and repair unit. The investment plan is based on five central pillars:- Investments of 5 million euros to upgrade the floating tanks and increase efficiency and safety of repairs.- Reopening of Syncrolift after 20 years, with an investment of 2.5 million euros, which will allow the servicing of additional ships and enhance the capacity of the unit.- Modernisation of the cranes (2.5 million euros), to improve operational flexibility and speed of work.- An energy upgrade of the infrastructure (2 million euros) to reduce the energy footprint and operating costs.- Environmental and technological modernisation (2 million euros), with the introduction of robotic and hydraulic systems, which improve working conditions and reduce the use of hazardous materials.ONEX management pointed out that this new investment is not an isolated initiative, but part of a broader strategic development plan that includes the creation of a multifunctional industrial hub in the Aegean. This hub will be able to serve not only commercial ships, but also energy and offshore projects, offering high-tech and high-standard services. Currently, ONEX Shipyards in Syros employs 450 to 500 workers, while more than 80 ship repair and conversion projects are completed each year.
