CONSUMPTION ARRESTS THE GROWTH OF SAVINGS
Consumption was the main driving force behind the GDP growth in the third quarter of 2025. It was around 4.5 percent, according to economists at PKO BP in their commentary on data from the Statistics Poland (GUS). This is supported by falling inflation, even if shop prices are outpacing it. "Retail sales in September increased by 6.4 percent y/y, which is close to our forecast. After a weak summer, there is a clear rebound driven by improved sentiment and real wage growth," say PKO BP economists. August and September purchases had an impact on the growth of savings. In September, household current deposits increased by less than PLN1.2bn and term deposits by only a half a billion zlotys. In contrast, the value of cash in circulation increased by PLN11.9bn.
