SHIPPING CORP AIMS TO BUY ONE SHIP PER YEAR WITH OWN FUNDS till 2030, driven by record profits.
The state-owned ocean-going vessel operator logs all-time high of Tk306cr profit in FY25 Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) plans to expand its fleet by acquiring one new ship annually until 2030, utilizing its own funds following a record year of profits. BSC reported a profit of Tk306.56 crore for FY25, a 23% increase year-on-year, and record revenue of Tk798.28 crore, up 33.39%. The board approved a 25% cash dividend for shareholders. This growth is attributed to rising freight rates, capital gains from selling fire-damaged tankers, and improved operational efficiency. BSC's profit has surged 1,688% over the last seven years, influenced by various factors including the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on shipping rates. Currently, BSC has six ships, including its latest addition, Banglar Pragati, with another ship, Banglar Nobojatra, expected by December. (ICE NEW DELHI)
