INDONESIA TO KICK OFF FIRST PHASE OF WASTE-TO-ENERGY PROJECTS IN FOUR CITIES

Indonesia’s sovereign investment authority, Danantara, has launched the first phase of its waste-to-energy (WTE) program, targeting Bogor, Bekasi, Denpasar, and Yogyakarta with a combined investment of around Rp12 trillion (US$750 million). Each city project is estimated at Rp2.5–3 trillion, with tenders already underway and more locations to follow based on readiness. The initiative is part of seven planned WTE projects, all expected to begin construction in early 2026 and become operational by April 2026. The program has attracted strong interest, with 200 companies registering and 24 shortlisted, thanks to projected annual returns of nearly 10 percent. Market certainty is reinforced by PT PLN’s obligation to purchase WTE-generated electricity at US$0.20 per kWh. Investment costs per project are estimated between Rp2.3–3.2 trillion, supported by predictable construction timelines and land provision from local governments. Each facility will span at least 5 hectares and handle up to 300 trucks daily, positioning WTE as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s sustainable energy infrastructure.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/5688/energy-and-resources/indonesia-to-kick-off-first-phase-of-waste-to-energy-projects-in-four-cities (ICE GIACARTA)
