INDONESIA BOOSTS BLUE FOOD PRODUCTION FOR 2045 GOLDEN ERA VISION
Indonesia’s Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry is prioritizing the expansion of “blue foods”—fish, shellfish, and seaweed—as part of its long-term vision to achieve a golden era by 2045 with healthier, high-quality human resources. Officials emphasized the nutritional importance of aquatic foods, particularly omega-3 fatty acids, for child development during the first 1,000 days of life. With 6.4 million square kilometers of maritime territory and a 108,000-kilometer coastline, Indonesia holds vast potential for aquaculture, which OECD data shows yields 68 percent edible output—far higher than other farmed proteins. The government is pairing productivity measures with public awareness campaigns, such as National Fish Day and the Gemarikan movement, to encourage fish consumption and improve nutrition. Blue foods are now integrated into national strategies to combat undernutrition, overnutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies, while also supporting supply chains and reducing food waste. These initiatives aim not only to strengthen public health but also to enhance the welfare of fishermen and aquaculturists, positioning aquatic foods as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s sustainable development.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/393389/indonesia-boosts-blue-food-production-for-2045-golden-era-vision (ICE GIACARTA)
