KAZAKHSTAN-AIR/CARGO-RESTRICTIONS
Tokayev orders review of ban on operating cargo aircraft older than 25 yearsPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed the government to consider lifting the restriction on operating cargo aircraft more than 25 years old, the presidential press service said on Wednesday.“The government should consider lifting the restriction on the operation of cargo aircraft over 25 years old. In the United States, the average fleet age at FedEx is 28 years, at UPS — 30 years, and at the UK carrier One Air — 33 years. There are many such examples,” Tokayev said at a meeting on the development of regional cargo air hubs.He also stressed the need to support the first national cargo airline, which is expected to be launched in the near future.“It is necessary to develop a specific package of measures for the next three to five years to support domestic cargo carriers. The main objective is to develop multimodal logistics by encouraging companies to create added value. A key factor in generating transit air cargo flows is the development of the aircraft fleet,” the president said.Earlier reports said the national air cargo airline will begin operations in 2026, with cargo volumes through Kazakhstan expected to double as a result.
