KAZAKHSTAN-URANIUM-RESOURCES

Kazakhstan holds over 2 million tonnes in estimated uranium resourcesKazakhstan possesses more than 2 million tonnes in estimated uranium resources, Deputy Minister of Energy Yerlan Akbarov said Thursday."Kazakhstan's estimated uranium resources exceed 2 million tonnes. The resources are located across nine uranium provinces, primarily within the Shu-Sarysu and Syrdarya basins, Akbarov said while addressing the Senate. He explained that the bulk of these resources are of the in-situ leachable, or hydrogenic, type, with the remaining provinces containing conventional hard-rock ore deposits. The announcement follows prior statements from Senator Alibek Nautiyev, who cited over 1.3 million tonnes in the nation's explored uranium reserves and resources. The country's production stems from six major deposits: Inkai, Moiynkum, Budenovskoye, Khorasan, Karamurun, and a second Moiynkum site. These operations support stable national output and export volumes. All uranium extraction in Kazakhstan employs the in-situ leach method, a technique that involves dissolving minerals from an ore body underground. (ICE ALMATY)
