IDR444 TRILLION SEMICONDUCTOR, SILICA, AND GLASS FACILITIES TO BE BUILT IN BATAM

A consortium of Indonesian, U.S., and German companies has announced a USD 26.7 billion (IDR 444 trillion) investment to build semiconductor, silica‑sand, solar‑cell, silicon‑wafer, and advanced glass manufacturing facilities on Galang Island, Batam. The project will be located within the Wiraraja Green Renewable Energy and Smart‑Eco Industrial Park (GESEIP), designated as part of Indonesia’s National Strategic Projects. Led by PT Quantum Luminous Indonesia, PT Terra Mineral Nusantara, and Tynergy Group, the consortium is expediting licensing and land readiness discussions with BP Batam, aiming to begin construction in early 2026. The companies emphasize that accelerated permit processing is critical to ensure investment certainty, supply‑chain preparation, workforce absorption, and technology transfer. The initiative builds on earlier engagements at the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali and the 2023 Hannover Messe in Germany, where commitments were formalized through cooperation agreements and a memorandum of understanding. BP Batam has also engaged with Horn Glass Industries, a German partner in the consortium, while stakeholders have been invited to observe production processes abroad. Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto highlighted U.S. interest in Indonesia’s semiconductor sector and reiterated the government’s goal of achieving 10% annual investment growth over the next five years. Construction is expected to begin once all technical and administrative permits are finalized, positioning Indonesia as a growing player in the global semiconductor and high‑tech materials supply chain.Source: https://business-indonesia.org/news/us-germany-indonesia-consortium-to-build-idr-444-trillion-semiconductor-silica-and-glass-facilities-in-batam (ICE GIACARTA)
