INDONESIA'S 2ND PHASE OF WASTE-TO-ENERGY PROJECT SET TO EXPAND

The Indonesian government is advancing the second phase of its Waste‑to‑Energy (PSEL) program, selecting Greater Lampung and Greater Surabaya as the only regions that meet all requirements for development. Environment Minister Hanif Faisol explained that after coordination with the Ministry for Food Affairs, detailed verification will precede the submission of proposals to regional governments. While local administrations remain responsible for preparing sites, budgets, waste supply, consultations, and supportive regulations, the central government has now taken over the procurement process, replacing the previous city‑ and regency‑based scheme. At the same time, the first batch of PSEL projects is progressing across seven regions. Greater Bogor, Denpasar, Yogyakarta, and Bekasi are already in the procurement stage under Danantara, while Tangerang, Medan, and Semarang are finalizing documentation. In Tangerang, an initial plan to integrate operations across the city, regency, and South Tangerang proved unworkable, leading to a revised approach where each jurisdiction will submit its own waste‑to‑energy proposal. This phased rollout highlights Indonesia’s effort to strengthen sustainable waste management and energy generation nationwide.Source: https://business-indonesia.org/news/second-phase-of-waste-to-energy-project-set-to-expand-to-lampung-and-greater-surabaya (ICE GIACARTA)
