FIRST BATCH OF NVIDIA GPUS ARRIVE IN KOREA AS PART OF GOVERNMENT'S 1.46 TRILLION
South Korea has received the first batch of graphic processing units (GPUs) from Nvidia, as part of the government’s ₩1.46 trillion plan to acquire advanced AI semiconductors. GPUs are among 13,000 units that the government aims to import by the end of the year, drawn from a supplementary budget approved in May. The imported hardware will be distributed across industry, academia, and public research institutes to strengthen Korea’s high-performance computing and AI research infrastructure. In addition, the government has established a “GPU Working Group,” involving major firms and institutions, tasked with coordinating how up to 260,000 GPUs pledged by Nvidia will be deployed and utilized across the country. The move marks a significant step to expand Korea’s national AI infrastructure and accelerate domestic AI development by providing researchers, universities and companies access to powerful computing resources.
