SYRIA INTERNATIONAL OIL, GAS, AND ENERGY EXHIBITION (SOG) KICKED OFF IN DAMASCUS
With the participation of 90 local, Arab, and international companies specialized in oil, gas, and energy, the Syria International Oil, Gas, and Energy Exhibition (SOG) kicked off Wednesday evening. The event is organized by “Nizam” Exhibitions and Conferences in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Energy, held at Damascus Fairgrounds, and will continue until the sixth of this month. Deputy Minister of Energy for Oil Affairs, Ghiath Diab, stated that the exhibition brought together leading national, Arab, and international companies. He stressed that the event embodies the will to work and build despite challenges, reflecting the government’s determination to revitalise the oil and energy sector as a cornerstone of reconstruction and development, and as an indicator of economic recovery and openness to regional and international cooperation. Diab noted that attracting investments and technical expertise contributes to achieving energy security and enhancing the added value of national resources. He pointed out that the oil sector has recently witnessed significant steps to facilitate investment and attract companies interested in cooperation. These include updating energy sector regulations and establishing the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) as a new executive and regulatory arm to support the ministry’s efforts in managing petroleum resources efficiently and transparently. For his part, Italian Ambassador to Syria Stefano Ravagnan highlighted in a statement to SANA the first official participation of Italian companies in Syria’s energy sector, describing it as one of the most promising and vital sectors in the Syrian market. Ravagnan explained that seven Italian companies are participating in the exhibition, some of which had a presence in the Syrian market before 2011. Meanwhile, new companies are seeking to explore investment opportunities in oil, gas, and renewable energy. He affirmed Italian companies’ interest in reactivating cooperation with Syrian partners and leveraging the available potential in the local market. Ali Nizam, General Manager of “Nizam” Exhibitions and Conferences, stated that the wide participation at local, Arab, and international levels reflects the strong support the exhibition enjoys. He noted that this participation represents a significant industrial force in the region, reinforcing the importance of the exhibition as a platform for cooperation and knowledge exchange. Nizam added that the event is witnessing notable attendance, with promises of visits from delegations of Gulf Cooperation Council countries and some European states, signalling a positive trend towards greater openness and enhanced international cooperation in the energy sector. The exhibition features companies operating in exploration and drilling, petroleum services, transportation and storage, refining, and logistics, in addition to renewable energy projects and modern technologies related to the energy sector.
