Record investment in agriculture fail to reduce Kazakhstan’s import dependence – TokayevKazakhstan remains dependent on food imports despite record levels of state support for the agricultural sector, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.“The issue of self-sufficiency in food products and goods that make up the daily diet of our citizens remains unresolved. We import far too much, and this is visible to the naked eye,” Tokayev said Friday at the award ceremony for the Altyn Sapa and Paryz laureates and winners of the national Best Product of Kazakhstan competition. He said the country continues to rely heavily on imports across a number of product categories.“This is unacceptable for Kazakhstan, especially given that this year a record 1 trillion tenge in state support has been allocated to agriculture, while total agricultural output for 2024 is estimated at 8.5 trillion tenge,” Tokayev said.
