INDONESIA'S TOURISM ADDS 4.9% TO GDP, EYES SPORTS FOCUS
Indonesia’s tourism sector contributed between 3.96% and 4.9% of GDP in 2025, employing over 25.9 million people and driven by rising tourist numbers—domestic tourism grew nearly 19% and foreign arrivals over 10% compared to last year. The Indonesian Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, emphasized that tourism remains a pillar of the national economy, with spending by visitors fueling growth. Looking ahead, the ministry is prioritizing sports tourism as a new driver of economic potential. Global data shows sports tourism accounted for 10% of tourism spending in 2023 and could reach 17.5% by 2030, with soccer as a major attraction. Indonesia is leveraging its iconic sports facilities and growing health-conscious population to host events like marathons, cycling, and wellness festivals. Examples include the Pocari Sweat Run in Mandalika, which drew 9,000 participants and generated IDR 85.5 billion, and initiatives to develop stadiums such as Gelora Bandung Lautan Api into tourism destinations.Source: https://katadata.co.id/berita/nasional/693575a1df481/pariwisata-sumbang-pdb-hingga-4-9-menpar-incar-fokus-baru-sport-tourism (ICE GIACARTA)
