The Greek shipbuilding industry is prepared to support a national plan to renew the country’s ferry fleet as part of the green transition, according to Panos Xenokostas, President of the Hellenic Shipyards Association and CEO of ONEX Group. Speaking at the thematic session “Shipping & ESG: The Green Transition of Ports and Coastal Shipping,” he emphasized that Greece has the necessary capacity, expertise, and operational readiness to build vessels, with competitiveness and an appropriate regulatory and investment framework being the key challenges. He noted strong progress in recent years, with nearly 800 ship repairs and new vessel construction already underway and emphasized the use of European and national funding so that green transition costs do not burden consumers. The Association reaffirmed its readiness to contribute to a unified national strategy for a modern, sustainable coastal fleet.   (ICE ATENE)
