The Greek government is introducing a legislative initiative that will allow ONEX — the company operating the Elefsis Shipyards and financed by the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) — to expand its activities beyond shipbuilding into a major development hub, combining port, commercial, transport, energy, and defense activities. This expansion follows ONEX’s 125-million-dollar bond loan agreement with the DFC, which significantly strengthens the strategic role of Elefsis as an emerging energy, commercial, and transit center for the wider region. The Greek Development Ministry Takis Theodorikakos noted that Greece is becoming a key entry point for American LNG for Europe, further enhancing the geopolitical significance of the Elefsis area.
