Eni has announced one of the most significant gas discoveries in recent years at the Konta-1 exploration well, confirming 17 billion cubic meters of reserves with potential exceeding 28 billion. The well is located in the Kutei Basin, about 50 kilometers off the coast of East Kalimantan, where Eni has operated for over 20 years and maintains one of its main offshore hubs in Southeast Asia.Drilled to a depth of 4,575 meters in waters 570 meters deep, Konta-1 achieved production test rates of up to 900,000 cubic meters of gas per day and 700 barrels of condensate per day, confirming the quality of the reservoir. Additional untested but geologically consistent segments could further expand the discovery. Its proximity to existing infrastructure makes development faster and more cost-efficient.
