GREECE: THE PUBLIC POWER CORPORATION (PPC) UNVEILS 2026–2028 BUSINESS PLAN WITH MAJOR FOCUS ON RENEWABLES, NETWORKS AND NEW MARKETS
Public Power Corporation (PPC) has presented its new business plan for 2026–2028, highlighting a major shift toward renewables, digitalization and network expansion across Greece and Southeastern Europe. For the first time in its history, the group’s renewable energy capacity exceeded 50% of total production, reaching 6.4 GW in the third quarter of 2025.The transition is driven by the phase-out of lignite, expected to be completed in 2026, and the rapid growth of wind and solar projects. RES capacity is projected to climb to 12.7 GW by 2028. PPC plans €10.1 billion in investments over the three-year period, with 93% directed toward new projects. The strategy includes major upgrades to power networks, expansion into data centers, telecommunications and AI-driven services, and the rollout of new consumer products such as home solar installations, heat pumps and fiber-optic services starting in 2026. PPC’s fiber network, currently covering 1.7 million homes, is expected to reach 3.8 million by 2030.PPC is also exploring regional expansion, including the potential development of new gas-fired power plants in Bulgaria and Romania. CEO George Stassis added that the company would not rule out acquiring a natural gas supply company in Italy should a suitable opportunity arise. (ICE ATENE)
