GREECE: MEDITERRANEAN SHIPPING COMPANY (MSC) CRUISES SA EYES MAJOR INVESTMENTS IN GREEK
At the "Reimagine Tourism 2025" conference at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center., MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago confirmed the company’s strong interest in Greek ports, highlighting planned investments and strategic initiatives. MSC is cooperating with Olympic Marine to bid for a majority stake at Lavrion Port, while also exploring opportunities in Patras and Katakolo. The company plans to invest at least €100 million in Lavrion, with potential upgrades in Katakolo to enhance passenger experiences. MSC also expressed readiness to support Greek tourism infrastructure, including a possible second funicular in Santorini if requested. Vago emphasized that MSC continues to serve 22 Greek islands, transporting over 1 million passengers with 8 ships in the country, and sees Greece as a key hub for European cruise operations, sustainability initiatives, and maritime technology development.
