GREECE LEADS REGIONAL TRANSPORT PROJECT WITH BULGARIA AND ROMANIA
Greece has signed a landmark agreement with Bulgaria and Romania to develop the Aegean-Black Sea Vertical Corridor, a strategic rail and road axis connecting the three countries via Alexandroupolis. The deal, signed in Brussels by Greece’s Alternate Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis alongside EU and regional officials, aims to turn Greece’s geographic location into a strategic advantage, enhancing cross-border connectivity and economic growth. The corridor, including the Thessaloniki–Alexandroupolis–Bucharest axis, is set to become a key transport artery in Europe, crucial for both trade and military mobility. Greece will play a central role in coordinating planning, financing, and implementation, with a joint project plan expected by the end of 2026 with support from the European Commission, CINEA, and the European Investment Bank. This initiative strengthens Greece’s position as a hub in South-Eastern Europe and highlights its strategic importance in EU transport and security networks. (ICE ATENE)
