INDONESIA TARGETS SUGAR, EGG, CHICKEN MEAT SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN 2026

Indonesia’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono announced that after achieving rice and corn self-sufficiency by the end of 2025, the government will shift its focus in 2026 to sugar, eggs, and chicken meat. President Prabowo Subianto has directed that sugar self-sufficiency be prioritized due to its importance for households and industries. To support protein self-sufficiency, egg and chicken farming will be expanded outside Java, reducing reliance on the island and ensuring food supplies for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. The initiative will involve SOEs, cooperatives, and local farmers across thirteen provinces.Beyond self-sufficiency, Indonesia is also advancing agricultural downstreaming for 11 commodities—including coconut, palm oil, cocoa, coffee, nutmeg, pepper, and gambier—to boost exports of processed goods with higher added value. Sudaryono highlighted agriculture as Indonesia’s comparative advantage, providing jobs, inclusivity, and long-term growth potential. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman confirmed that rice and corn self-sufficiency will be officially declared on December 31, 2025, aligning with national targets.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/395893/indonesia-targets-sugar-egg-chicken-meat-self-sufficiency-in-2026?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
