INDONESIA STRENGTHENS CERAMIC INDUSTRY THROUGH POLICY MEASURES

The Indonesian Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, highlighted the growing domestic and export demand for ceramic and glass products, signaling strong opportunities for industry development. To support this growth, the Ministry is implementing key policies such as mandatory Indonesian National Standards (SNI) for ceramics, industrial gas subsidies through specific natural gas prices (HGBT), halal product certification effective October 2026, and the P3DN program to boost domestic product use. Minister Agus emphasized that these measures—particularly SNI and energy incentives—are crucial for protecting local industries, reducing production costs, and attracting new investment. Additionally, reforms to the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) policy under Regulation No. 35/2025 provide incentives of up to 60 percent for investors, simplify certification processes, and enhance transparency by requiring TKDN values on product labels. Industry data from 2024 shows that the ceramic and tableware sector had a capacity of 250,000 tons with 78 percent domestic market share and exports worth USD 68 million, while the glass and packaging industry reached 740,000 tons capacity with 65 percent domestic market share and exports valued at USD 97 million. These figures underscore the sector’s potential as the government strengthens competitiveness and sustainability through regulatory and promotional initiatives.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2035822/indonesia-strengthens-ceramic-industry-through-policy-measures  (ICE GIACARTA)
