HONG KONG LAUNCHES PROFESSIONAL SERVICES PLATFORM FOR MAINLAND CHINESE COMPANIES
Hong Kong launches professional services platform for mainland Chinese companies Hong Kong authorities have launched a professional services platform to provide support for mainland Chinese companies expanding overseas, while boosting business opportunities for local sectors. Speaking at the launch ceremony for the Hong Kong Professional Services GoGlobal Platform on Saturday, Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan said the sectors’ international outlook, uncompromising standards and nuanced understanding of both Chinese and global contexts allowed them to offer “comprehensive support” to companies eyeing international markets. “The platform will serve as a hub that brings together Hong Kong’s cross-sector professional services as the main force to support enterprises going global,” Cheung said. “It will promote and support the professional services sectors, empowering them to better respond to the needs for professional services of mainland enterprises.” The platform aims to coordinate the city’s professional services to meet the needs of mainland enterprises and will collaborate with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in making the assistance deeper and broader. It will integrate information related to the city’s professional sectors and publish lists of service providers supporting overseas expansion. The Department of Justice, which initiated the platform, will establish an expert committee that includes representatives from the mainland and Hong Kong in the legal, financial, accounting and business sectors to support the work. Cheung said the platform would also complement the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global that launched in October. The minister said the task force would directly engage with mainland enterprises as a “pivotal point of contact”, while the platform would bring suppliers of different types of professional services together. Speaking at the same ceremony, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah said the task force’s steering committee was finalising an overall direction, including identifying target companies and organising promotional activities. “The government will also leverage this service platform to bring more business opportunities for Hong Kong’s professional services providers, with a view to further enhancing the influence of Hong Kong’s professional services in the Chinese mainland and overseas, and injecting momentum into Hong Kong’s economic development,” he said. Yau described the city as the “best partner” for mainland companies going global, given its internationalised professional services. He said the professionals could help businesses address challenges and difficulties, such as cross-border capital management, risk management, laws and regulations, cultural differences and talent recruitment. The task force is one of the efforts outlined in Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s policy address in September to help mainland enterprises build their operations overseas. https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/hong-kong-economy/article/3336347/hong-kong-launches-professional-services-platform-mainland-chinese-companies (ICE HONG KONG)
