South-East Asia, 29 November 2025 – Malaysia has emerged as South-East Asia’s fastest-growing digital economy, expanding 19% year-on-year and projected to reach US$39 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) in 2025, according to the e-Conomy SEA Report 2025 by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company. Growth is led by e-commerce, which is expected to hit US$20 billion after rising 21% year-on-year, supported by platform consolidation and the rise of video commerce. Online travel is the region’s fastest-growing, up 19%, driven by improved air connectivity, visa liberalisation and digital tourism campaigns ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026, while digital financial services continue double-digit growth, with digital payments projected to reach US$213 billion in gross transaction value.
