Kazakhstan seeks Japanese investment in ‘green’ technologies for traditional energy sector – TokayevKazakhstan is interested in attracting advanced Japanese technologies and investment for projects involving the extraction and processing of traditional energy resources, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.“We view the development of clean energy as a strategic long-term priority. Kazakhstan is interested in attracting Japanese expertise, innovation and investment in projects for the extraction and processing of traditional energy resources using green technologies,” Tokayev said while speaking at the first Central Asia–Japan Dialogue Summit in Tokyo on Saturday, according to a statement from the presidential press service.Against the backdrop of geopolitical instability and rising energy demand, hydrocarbon resources will continue to play a key role in ensuring global economic stability, the president said.“At the same time, we are guided by the need for a balanced and equitable energy transition,” he added.Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan is among the world’s top ten coal producers, with coal accounting for around 70% of the country’s energy mix.“Therefore, we intend to apply the most advanced technologies to transform this natural resource into an efficient and environmentally safer source of energy,” he said.
